The 7th annual Sanctuary Cove Ladies Golf Classic got underway on Sunday 11 March 2018 with three days of golf and evening events.
The Pines golf course saw the first day of play commence with 112 ladies playing from over 20 golf clubs from around Australia. The ladies eased into the three-day event with a 4-Person Ambrose, playing with friends and meeting new ones along the way. The rain didn’t hinder the ladies’ spirits where they enjoyed two of our wonderful sponsors Lipsense on the 6th hole and Roden and Fields on the 13th hole.
Australasian PGA Tour player, Steve Jones greeted the ladies on the 13th hole with a glass of champagne as well as a nice accompaniment of cheese and fruit platters. Steve offered his approach shot skills in exchange for a donation to the Griffith University Institute for Glycomics, which Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club proudly supports. Steve did a fantastic job raising $428.90 for the institue.
With a rain-soaked day out on the golf course the ladies were pleased to come and join us in the Clubhouse. They enjoyed cold beverages and canapés in Lakeview Bar and were treated to live music by Maihi Pinker while prizes were presented to the day’s winners. The winning team of the day was that of Chris Lynam, Kimberley Robinson, Karron McComb and Kerry Robinson whose local knowledge came in handy with a score of 62 1/8 Nett ahead of our great sponsors from On The Tee Ria Livanas, Louise Hayman, Wendy Champion and Sandra O’Donnell on 63 1/8 Nett.
Day 2 of the Sanctuary Cove Ladies Golf Classic was the first round of the Single Stableford event played over two days. All players were competing for the major prize of a diamond studded putter at the commencing of the two-day event.
The sun was shining on The Palms golf course for the day, which saw a great relief to many players’ faces. The conditions were tough due to rain that had fallen over the weekend, which saw no one break their handicap for the day. The best score of the day belonged to Pauline Whitehouse from Paradise Palms Golf Shop who had a superb score of 36 points. She held a narrow lead after day one from Katrina Onishi and Janiece Irwin from Pymble Golf Club on 34 points.
After a relaxing afternoon to freshen up, the ladies returned to Lakeview Bar for a formal dinner. A three-course meal was enjoyed by all and while the drinks flowed the day’s presentations were made. The Piano Men were thoroughly enjoyed and the ladies danced well into the night.
The Pines golf course hosted the final round of the Single Stableford event. With the threat of scattered showers in the afternoon and strong winds to contend with the Ladies enjoyed a cooler afternoon on the golf course.
At the evening’s buffet and presentation dinner, the winner of the coveted diamond studded putter and the Sanctuary Cove Ladies Golf Classic trophy was announced.
The overnight leader Pauline Whitehouse was the one to chase on day two. Coming down to the wire after two consistent days of golf from our very own Sanctuary Cove Ladies’ Captain, Madonna Siokos and The Australian’s Virginia Bevan, winning on a count back with scores of 31 points and 35 points, a total of 66 points, was Virginia Bevan. Our Division one winner was Sanctuary Cove Ladies’ Vice Captain, Margie Hay with 59 points. Division three winner from Pymble Golf Club was Katrina Onishi with 60 points.
Congratulations to all the other winners who took home lovely prizes over the three days. Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club would like to thank our sponsors who generously donated prizes over the three days. Your generosity and support of the three-day event is greatly appreciated by all involved.
Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club wishes to thank all those who participated in this year’s event and we trust you enjoyed your time at Sanctuary Cove.
We look forward to seeing many of you again next year for the 8th annual Sanctuary Cove Ladies Golf Classic.
