On Sunday 23 June, the weather was perfect for the 2019 Club Handicap Championships.
Men’s A Grade
Marshall Leigh played Glen Thomson and Marshall held a slender lead throughout the front nine. Marshall was one up through twelve holes before Glen won holes 13 and 14 to take a 1-up lead. This was a close match, and it was no surprise to see the match all-square on the 18th tee. Unfortunately, Marshall found the water on 18 and Glen was crowned the 2019 A Grade Champion.
Ladies’ A Grade
Gail Chell played Janice Wright in the Ladies’ A Grade final. This match went back and forth for the entire front nine. The match continued to be close throughout the back nine until Gail ended up winning 2 & 1.
Men’s B Grade
Kyle Fryers was off to a hot start in the B Grade final and lead 4-up after four holes against Trevor Grant. Kyle never looked back and was a convincing 6 & 5 winner.
Ladies’ B Grade
In the B Grade final, Evelyn Rabinowe played Traci Butler. This match was very tight after nine holes. Evelyn was 1-up after twelve holes and then won three holes in a row to win the match 4 & 3.
Men’s C Grade
In the Men’s C Grade final, good friends Jonathon Schmarr and Marcus Di Bella played for the title. There was nothing in it all day and Marcus held a 2-up lead with two holes to play. Jonathon won the 17th and then holed a 15-foot putt on 18 to send the match to a sudden death play off. Jonathon Schmarr prevailed on 19 to become the C Grade Champion.
Ladies’ C Grade
Jane Charlton played Mary Hinves in the Ladies’ C Grade final. Jane was 6-up after nine holes and continued her fine play to win 6 & 5.
Congratulations to all finalists and a special thank you to all of the referees who helped on the day. To Greg Herring, Paul Smerdon, Alan Lock, Clare Kirby, Margie Hay and Robbie Hall, thank you for all your effort to help make this day a huge success.
