A beautiful warm spring day greeted the finalists for the 2019 Club Championships with a number of Members coming to the Club to support the players.
A Grade Ladies
The number one qualifier, Audy White, was looking to win back-to-back Club Championships against her good friend Jessica Wang. Audy was off to a good start in the morning and held a 7-up lead at the completion of the morning round.
Audy continued her great play in the tough afternoon conditions to be crowned the 2019 Ladies’ Club Champion with an 8 & 7 victory.
A Grade Men
Mitchell Varley was chasing a win to take the title of Club Championship against five-time Club Champion Glen Jones. Mitch played great golf in the morning to hold a 9-up lead going into the afternoon round, claiming the title of 2019 Men’s Club Champion.
A Reserve Ladies
Cathy Mathieson played Janice Wright in the Ladies’ A Reserve final, in which Cathy held a 2-up lead after ten holes. Janice fought back from 3 down to win an extremely tight match on the eighteenth green. Well done Janice.
B Grade Ladies
The B Grade Ladies’ final saw Andrea Holt play Kozue Sekiguchi. Andrea held a slender lead throughout and was victorious 3 & 2.
B Grade Men
Elden Fryers played Bruce Munro in the B Grade Men’s final and Elden was 3 up after eleven holes. Elden continued the solid play winning 5 & 3 and being crowned the 2019 Men’s B Grade Champion.
C Grade Ladies
Debra Scerri played Kim Galpin in the Ladies’ C Grade final. This was a close match throughout the day and the ladies were all square heading to the eighteenth hole. Kim Galpin won the hole to be the 2019 Ladies’ C Grade Champion.
C Grade Men
Peter Spencer played Ian Mathieson in the final and Peter was looking for the Stroke Play – Club Championship double. Peter played steady golf to be 4 up at the turn. After wins on holes 11, 12 and 13, Peter won 7 & 5 and took the title of C Grade Club Champion for 2019.
A special mention to Paul McLean and his team for having The Pines golf course presented in such good order throughout the entire Championships for both the men and ladies.
