Friday 8 November 2019
On Tuesday 5 November, the Club hosted 115 Members and their guests for a fabulous Melbourne Cup luncheon in The Jabiru Restaurant. The Clubhouse was transformed into its own version of the iconic Melbourne Cup festival with yellow roses, white picket fences and the quintessential bird cage, while guests took in the Flemington action on large screens inside the room. On the menu was a delicious seafood and steak buffet with all the trimmings, followed by the day’s highlight – the race that stops the nation. To round off the Melbourne Cup festivities, guests unwound and danced to the upbeat tunes of the Scorpio duo on Lakeview Terrace.

Week five of The Pines golf course irrigation project is underway with all defects on the 12th hole rectified and the hole signed off as complete. Pending rectification of defects on the 13th, this hole is also complete, with communication lines to the central control unit in the irrigation office now online.
Cleaning of the spoil from the 13th hole was difficult this week due to a high percentage of contamination in the soil. Lack of a turning area on the green surrounds also posed a problem for the plough while installing the lateral line around the green.
Over the next week, it is expected that the 14th hole will be completed while the underground servicers will be located on holes 15 and 16 in preparation of future works. In doing this, we face the challenge of running the main line underneath Arnold Palmer Drive between the 15th and 16th hole as well as navigating around the 240-volt power supply.
On Friday 8 November 2019, Sharon Rowntree, one of Queensland’s finest singers, will be accompanied by world renowned pianist Keith Van Geyzel in the iconic duo, Nostalgia.
