Congratulations to Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club trainee professional Mitch Smith on his win earlier this week at the Gailes Trainee Match. This was Mitch’s first event as a trainee, and he fired a four-under-par round to be equal winner with two other trainee professionals. Well done Mitch.

The Pines golf course irrigation project continues with holes 17 and 18 being signed off as complete this week. Turfing around irrigation heads and on the main line trench continues on hole 18 as well as the ploughing of lateral lines and installation of irrigation heads on both range tees. By the end of the week, installation of the main line on the driving range is expected to be complete and work will continue on the main line installation from the driving range to hole 11. This installation will include two path crossings, the challenge of which is to avoid a power line running in between them.
Next week will see the main line installation on hole 11, the installation of irrigation heads around the 11th hole green and surrounds as well as continued turfing on holes 17 and 18 and the clean up of works on the driving range.
In line with the irrigation project rectification works, the golf course maintenance team will be scarifying, aerating, topdressing and applying a granular fertiliser to holes 12 through 18 to help in the recovery from any damage caused by the installation of the irrigation system. These works will start Monday and be completed on Tuesday while golf numbers are low.
