Entries are now open for the 2020 Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club Easter Tournament. The Easter Tournament is a highlight on the Club’s golfing and social calendar and will run from Thursday 9 April 2020 until Monday 13 April 2020.

A glorious summer morning greeted players for the finals of the 2020 Men’s Senior, Veteran and Vintage Club Championships on Sunday 2 February 2020.
In the Senior final, John Scerri took on Marshall Leigh which was always going to be a very competitive game. Marshall was leading throughout and held a two-up lead on the 16th tee. Some solid play from John sent the match to extra holes. Marshall had a chance to win the match on the first playoff hole, but the short putt slipped by. This then opened the door for John to win the second playoff hole and be the 2020 Men’s Senior Club Champion.
In the Veteran final, Gary Simmons played against Cliff Hoyle. Gary held a slender two-up lead through nine holes. Cliff just couldn’t find a way to narrow the margin with great golf being played by both men. Gary proved to be a touch too good and won the Veteran Championship by a 3 & 2 margin. This gave Gary back to back wins in the Veteran Championship.
In the Vintage final, Bart Doff played against Angelo Siokos. Bart was off to a hot start and was three up after four holes. Angelo then rallied with some fantastic golf to be all square after twelve holes. Bart then was too good and won four straight holes to take the match 4 & 2.
A special thank you to the three referees Greg Herring, David Vosloo and Rob Lane, who gave up their time on a Sunday to assist.
The Match Committee is trialling a Pick a Tee competition day tomorrow, Saturday 8 February 2020 on The Pines golf course. Both the men’s and the ladies’ competition will be one competition, and each will have their choice of tee per the below:
The daily handicap will adjust to the tee Members select to play off.

On Wednesday 12 February 2020, Mark O’Conner from Bleasdale winery will be visiting the Club to host a wine tasting event in Lakeview Bar from 5:30pm. Members and guests are invited to join us in Lakeview Bar to sample a selection of wines from one of the most historic wineries in Australia, which celebrated 165 years of continuous winemaking in 2015.

The Club is holding a First Aid course that is open to Members on Tuesday 3 March 2020. There are two options available to Members:
Those who completed their First Aid course through the Club in 2019 can renew their CPR certification during a three-hour face to face course plus online pre-course learning. Note that the CPR component is valid for one year only.
For those who would like to complete the full First Aid and CPR course, the face to face course is eight hours plus online pre-course learning. The full course will provide participants with the skills and knowledge to administer first aid, basic life support and CPR in an emergency.
Those completing the CPR refresher will be required to attend the morning session only.
There are no prerequisites for the course however, those attending will be required to demonstrate their physical ability to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on a mannequin to meet the performance criteria for assessment.
All attendees will be required to provide a USI (student number from the online learning modules) prior to completing the course.

Restaurant booking sheets will be open 14 days in advance. Members can book up to 9 guests, any groups larger will need to be made directly with the Club.

The new world handicapping system was implemented on Thursday 30 January 2020.
The Match Committee has made a decision to implement a new grading system from this date for all men’s and ladies’ competitions, excluding all Monthly Medals, Major Events and Honour Board Events where traditional grading will continue to be used.
The new grading system will be a sliding grade system. This means that the competition splits will change from day to day depending on the field size per the below example:
Men’s competition with 104 players
A grade – 35 players with the lowest handicaps
B grade – 35 players with the next lowest handicaps
C grade – 34 players with the highest handicaps
The split may change slightly if there are several golfers on the same handicap that are right on the grade split.
The Golf Services staff will write the daily grade split on the results sheet.

The Pines golf course irrigation project continued this week with the completion of turfing works on both range tees and the surrounds. The installation of lateral lines and irrigation heads on the 11th hole fairway, rough and tee complex was also completed.
The next two weeks will see the main line, laterals and irrigation heads completed on the 8th hole as well as all defects completed on hole 11 and the hole signed off.

Michael Jones from MJ Golf is holding a clinic in 2020 for all ladies who are new to golf. This golf clinic is designed for ladies who are new to the game and want to learn how to play, understand the rules and golf etiquette. Michael’s course offers a friendly, non-competitive environment with morning tea provided in the Clubhouse at the conclusion of each clinic. Congratulations to Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club Member Mrs Beverly Bayley who was the lucky winner of $2,600 Club Credit at the Members’ Draw on Sunday 2 February 2020.
This Sunday, the draw will reset to $1,000 and there will be one chance to find another lucky winner. In order to claim the Members’ Draw, the winner must be present in Lakeview Bar at the time of the draw. If the winner is not present, the draw will jackpot to $1,100 Club Credit next week with once chance to win.
