{"id":83837,"date":"2025-04-11T10:26:05","date_gmt":"2025-04-11T00:26:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sanctuarycovegolf.com.au\/cms\/?p=83837"},"modified":"2025-04-11T10:26:05","modified_gmt":"2025-04-11T00:26:05","slug":"rule-of-the-week-cleaning-ball","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sanctuarycovegolf.com.au\/cms\/2025\/04\/rule-of-the-week-cleaning-ball\/","title":{"rendered":"Rule of the Week \u2013 Cleaning Ball"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"ruleOfGolfSections_section_title__8nT4L\">\n<h3 class=\"ruleOfGolfSections_value__JedVT\">Rule of the Week: 14.1c &#8211; Cleaning Ball<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ruleOfGolfSections_section_text__7eq3s\">\n<div class=\"rulePageRichTextEditor_rich-text-parser__container__F5R2a\"><span class=\"rich-text-span\">A ball lifted from the&nbsp;<span tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" aria-label=\"Definition container\">putting green<\/span>&nbsp;may always be cleaned (see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.randa.org\/en\/rog\/the-rules-of-golf\/rule-13#13_1b\">Rule 13.1b<\/a>). <\/span><span class=\"rich-text-span\">A ball lifted from anywhere else may always be cleaned&nbsp;<strong>except<\/strong>&nbsp;when it is lifted:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"text-format-underline\">To See If It Is Cut or Cracked<\/span>. Cleaning is not allowed (see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.randa.org\/en\/rog\/the-rules-of-golf\/rule-4#4_2c\">Rule 4.2c(1)<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"text-format-underline\">To Identify It<\/span>. Cleaning is allowed only as needed to identify it (see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.randa.org\/en\/rog\/the-rules-of-golf\/rule-7#7_3\">Rule 7.3<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"text-format-underline\">Because It Interferes with Play<\/span>. Cleaning is not allowed (see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.randa.org\/en\/rog\/the-rules-of-golf\/rule-15#15_3b\">Rule 15.3b(2)<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"text-format-underline\">To See If It Lies in Condition Where Relief Is Allowed<\/span>. Cleaning is not allowed, unless the player then takes relief under a Rule (see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.randa.org\/en\/rog\/the-rules-of-golf\/rule-16#16_4\">Rule 16.4<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"rich-text-span\">If the player cleans their ball when not allowed under this Rule, they get&nbsp;<strong><span class=\"text-color-red\">one penalty stroke<\/span><\/strong>and must&nbsp;<span tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" aria-label=\"Definition container\">replace<\/span> the ball if it was lifted.&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"rich-text-span\"><span class=\"text-color-lightBlue\"><strong>See&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.randa.org\/en\/rog\/the-rules-of-golf\/rule-22#22_2\"><strong>Rule 22.2<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;(in&nbsp;<span tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" aria-label=\"Definition container\">Foursomes<\/span>, either&nbsp;<span tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" aria-label=\"Definition container\">partner<\/span>&nbsp;may act for the&nbsp;<span tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" aria-label=\"Definition container\">side<\/span>&nbsp;and action by the&nbsp;<span tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" aria-label=\"Definition container\">partner<\/span>&nbsp;is treated as action of the player);&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.randa.org\/en\/rog\/the-rules-of-golf\/rule-23#23_5\"><strong>23.5<\/strong><\/a>(in&nbsp;<span tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" aria-label=\"Definition container\">Four-Ball<\/span>, either&nbsp;<span tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" aria-label=\"Definition container\">partner<\/span>&nbsp;may act for the&nbsp;<span tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" aria-label=\"Definition container\">side<\/span>&nbsp;and action by the&nbsp;<span tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" aria-label=\"Definition container\">partner<\/span>&nbsp;concerning the player\u2019s ball or&nbsp;<span tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" aria-label=\"Definition container\">equipment<\/span>&nbsp;is treated as action of the player).<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.randa.org\/rog\/the-rules-of-golf\/rule-14\">Read more on the R&amp;A website<\/a><\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"ruleOfGolfSections_section_text__7eq3s\">\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ruleOfGolfContent_content__copy__bZVyQ\">\n<div id=\"10_3\" class=\"ruleOfGolfSubRules_wrapper__QSpN1\">\n<div id=\"10_3c\">\n<div class=\"ruleOfGolfSections_section_text__7eq3s\">\n<div class=\"ruleOfGolfSections_section_text__7eq3s\">\n<div class=\"rulePageRichTextEditor_rich-text-parser__container__F5R2a\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rule of the Week: 14.1c &#8211;
