The 8th annual Sanctuary Cove Ladies’ Golf Classic got underway on Sunday 17 March with three days of golf and evening events.
The Pines golf course saw the first day of play commence with 125 ladies playing from over 28 golf clubs from around Australia. The ladies eased into the three-day event playing a 4-Person Ambrose with a green St Patrick’s Day theme, playing with friends and making new ones along the way. The forecast of rain throughout the afternoon didn’t hinder the ladies’ spirits when they were greeted by Australasian PGA Tour player Sam Price on the 13th hole. Sam offered his approach shot skills in exchange for a donation to the Griffith University Institute for Glycomics, which the Club proudly supports. Sam did a fantastic job raising $403.95 for the charity.
The ladies finished their round of golf before the rain began, and joined us in the Clubhouse for cold beverages and canapés on the Terrace while treated to live music from the Brown Suga Duo. First day prizes were presented to the winners Denise Semple, Joanne Phelan, Alexis Glendinning & Robyn Wanless from Wantima Golf Club who had a fantastic score of 59.75 nett. Some ladies got into the St Patrick’s Day spirit and the best dressed prize was awarded to Jan Sugg, Maureen Giles, Virginia Oxenford & Velma Harding from Surfers Paradise Golf Club.
Day 2 of the Sanctuary Cove Ladies’ Golf Classic was the first round of the single stableford competition played over two days. All players were competing for the major prize of the diamond-studded putter.
The sun was shining on The Palms golf course after a large amount of rainfall over night which was a great relief to many players. There was a tie for the lead after day one with some amazing scores from many of the players, despite unfavourable conditions due to the large amount of rain fall. Robyn Smith from Pymble Golf Club, Joanne Phelan from Wantima Golf Club and Traci Butler from Sanctuary Cove all had scores of 40 points after day one. They were closely followed by Madonna Siokos and Marion Coy from Sanctuary Cove and Tasma Pottinger from Pacific Golf Club on 38 points.
After a relaxing afternoon to freshen up, the ladies returned to Lakeview Bar for a formal dinner. A three-course meal designed by Head Chef Brendan McConchie was enjoyed by all and while drinks flowed, the day’s presentations were held. Ben & Bliss from Beau ‘n’ Arrow treated the ladies to a night of entertainment where they danced the night away.
The Pines golf course hosted the final round of the single stableford event. The ladies enjoyed the afternoon on the golf course while soaking up the Gold Coast sunshine.
At the evening’s buffet and presentation dinner, the winner of the coveted diamond-studded putter and Sanctuary Cove Ladies’ Golf Classic trophy was announced. We are also pleased to announce that the ladies helped raise $1,735 through a raffle, for which prizes were kindly donated. This money will be proudly donated to Griffith University Institute for Glycomics.
The overnight leaders from day one were the ones to chase on day two with plenty of ladies in the hunt to be crowned the Ladies’ Golf Classic winner and win the coveted diamond studded putter. After two consistent days of golf, Sanctuary Cove’s Marion Coy finished one shot clear on 76 points from Christine Adamsas on 75 points after carding an amazing 41 points on The Pines golf course on day two. The division one winner was Sanctuary Cove’s Madonna Siokos on 71 points. Division two was won by Jacqueline Hohns from Maroochy River Golf Club, who was 4 shots clear on 68 points. The division three winner was Robyn Wanless from IGolf Australia on 70 points on a count back.
Congratulations to all the other winners who took home lovely prizes over the three days. Sanctuary Cove would like to thank all sponsors who donated prizes over the three days, their generosity and support of the event is greatly appreciated. We would also like to thank brand representatives who took the time to introduce and present their brands.
