Updated – Member Vaccination Policy and Club Operation

In light of an ever-growing number of confirmed COVID-19 cases among our Members and staff, the Board has amended the COVID-19 Members Vaccination Policy (Policy) in regard to those Members who have been exposed to COVID-19 diagnosed Members.

The following changes have been made to the Policy which was issued on 17 December 2021, please review them carefully:

Member Vaccination Policy

Requirement

  1. From Thursday, 13 January 2022, in addition to the requirements outlined in Queensland Chief Health Officer public health direction Isolation for Diagnosed Cases of COVID-19 and Management of Close Contacts Direction (No. 2) and any subsequent relevant Queensland Chief Health Officer public health directions, it will be a requirement that a Member immediately leave and not visit the Club Premises, including Exempted Club Premises, as soon as the Member is informed or becomes aware that within the past seven (7) days they have:
    1. played golf in the same group, for any duration of time, as a Member who has received a positive COVID-19 test result, or who has been otherwise informed that they have been diagnosed as having COVID-19; or
    2. had a mask-less interaction in the Clubhouse, for any duration of time, (for example, sitting at the same table) with a Member who has received a positive COVID-19 test result, or who has been otherwise informed that they have been diagnosed as having COVID-19.

Access to Club Premises

  1. An Exposed Member, as defined in the Policy, can attend the Club Premises, including Exempted Club Premises, by providing evidence to Member Services that, after being deemed an Exposed Member:

You can view the updated Policy by clicking here and additionally, a hard copy will be available for viewing on the Member noticeboard in the golf shop.

This Policy has been amended by the Board to further ensure that Members and staff are provided with the safest possible environment to both enjoy the facilities and work in.

Club Operations

The Palms Golf Course Renovations

Due to the inclement weather last week and deterioration of the team due to Covid, we will be unable to complete the full renovation of The Palms golf course in the allocated time in January.

As at today, we are operating with 8 staff removed from the team, 6 of which relate to Covid and 2 to outstanding recruitment of resigned staff. We will continue to ensure the playing surfaces of The Pines golf course remain our priority for the enjoyment of the Members and guest.

It will our goal to complete the renovation of all greens, tees and aprons as well as applying a selective herbicide to remove foreign weeds from the rough areas. The planned scarifying and top-dressing with sand of the fairways is what we will be unable to complete and at this stage, we will look for alternate dates towards the Spring.

Cashless Payments

Effective Thursday 13 January, the Club will not be accepting cash payments in any of our outlets. Members and guests will be required to charge their accounts or use credit card. This has been adopted to further reduce the risk for Members and staff with respect to Covid and we appreciate your support with this.

Outlet Opening Hours

As previously communicated, we are being challenged daily with staff resources across all areas of the business due to Covid. We will continue to update Members in the Weekly Newsletter that is communicated to Members each Friday.

Please note the following changes for your information for Lakeview in January and the Golf Shop next week:

As the number of COVID-19 cases in Queensland continues to increase, we hope you and your family are healthy and staying safe.

We wanted to make you aware that for the first time since the start of the pandemic, a small number of Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club Members have reported testing positive to COVID-19. Please be assured that all necessary safety measures have been implemented at the Club in response to these positive cases and we continue to ensure all existing COVID-19 protocols are followed.

In the coming days and weeks, we ask you to please ensure that you know the range of COVID-19 symptoms, particularly the symptoms of the Omicron variant, and if you are unwell or experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, please do not visit the Club and follow Queensland Health advice regarding testing

Should you test positive to COVID-19, please adhere to the Queensland Health requirements, which include immediately isolating and informing your household and household like contacts of your confirmed COVID-19 status. Please also make the Club aware of your diagnosis by contacting Member Services on 5699 9000 or info@scgcc.com.au so that any necessary precautions can be implemented for staff and the Club.

Please also be aware of the face mask requirements that came into effect on Sunday, 2 January, which means that a mask must be worn at all times in the Club, except for when you are eating or drinking. As you are aware, this was already a precautionary measure put in place by the Board prior to becoming mandated. In addition to the face mask requirement, please continue to follow physical distancing guidelines and regularly wash and sanitise your hands.

Unfortunately, given the speed with which the Omicron variant is spreading, we expect that further Members and some staff will be impacted by or diagnosed with COVID-19. We therefore expect that there will be some disruption to the Club’s services and we thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we navigate the impact of COVID-19 on the Club. We will communicate to the Members as and when we experience any disruptions to the operations of the Club.

We are committed to keeping you safe at the Club and I will continue to keep you updated.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding, and please stay safe.

Following further health advice issued by the Queensland government in relation to the wearing of face masks at indoor facilities, the Club advises that all Members, guests and staff must wear a face mask from 5am AEST Thursday 23 December in all areas of the Golf Clubhouse.

Face masks may be removed when seated or standing for eating and drinking purposes only and should be worn at all other times when moving around the Club.

Due to a growing number of exposure sites across Queensland, Members, guests and staff are requested to regularly check the full list of exposure venues issued by Queensland health and to follow the health directive given. A full list can be viewed by clicking here.

We thank Members and your guests for your understanding and cooperation in adhering to the government health advice and Club’s guidelines.

The Board met this week to discuss the COVID-19 Vaccination Policy for Members following the release of the Public Health and Social Measures Direction on 7 December 2021.

After careful consideration, the Board has amended the Policy which will come into effect at the Club on 17 December 2021. You can view the updated Policy by clicking here and additionally, a hard copy will be available for viewing on the Member noticeboard in the golf shop.

Golf clubs may self-impose rules which does include granting permission to access golf facilities for unvaccinated people. This matter has been addressed in the Policy and it should be noted that we are different to some other Clubs to provide what we believe to be more precautionary and a safer environment for Members, staff and guests.

The Queensland Government health guidelines restrict entry to unvaccinated people from 17 December 2021 into clubs, pubs, restaurants, and other various facilities which include Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club (Club).

Enforcing new Restrictions at the Club

The Club must take reasonable steps to enforce these restrictions through the following means:

  • Display the vaccination rules in a prominent location at the entry of our business premises
  • Ask for evidence of vaccination from Members and all guests at the time of check-in (this is a legal requirement). All Members will be required to check in
  • If a Member or guest cannot or refuses to provide evidence, the Member or guest will be asked to leave the premises
  • The main Golf Club entrance doors and the golf shop will be the only areas through which Members can access the Club; the bathroom/locker room doors will be locked
  • Staff will request to see that all Members and guests have checked in prior to serving them

Vaccination Certificates

We again ask all Members who haven’t already supplied their vaccination certificates to the Club to please do so today. Members will see in the Policy that any Member who has not supplied this information to the Club prior to 17 December 2021 will be treated as unvaccinated.

When staff are requesting to view or confirm your vaccination status, please be respectful to them in that they are administering both the Club Policy and rules put in place by the government.

If any Member needs assistance with putting their vaccination certificates on their Check In Qld app, please come up to Member Services at the Golf Club and staff will assist.

General

Whilst we have no choice regarding Clubhouse restrictions, we have implemented a Policy in the best interest of Members from a health and safety perspective. This is a continuation of what the Board has put in place at the Club since the commencement of the COVID-19 crisis.

The staff will be making every effort today to accommodate the amendments to tee sheets for unvaccinated Members. May we please request that if you have any difficulties following the rules outlined in the Policy, you please contact Member Services or the golf shop and the team will assist.

We will continue to update the Members should any changes to the Policy be required as and when further health directives are issued.

Please carefully view the Policy and familiarise yourself with it.

If any Member has any questions or concerns, please contact Member Services on info@scgcc.com.au or (07) 5699 9000.

Queensland Health has issued a public health alert due to a number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Gold Coast. A number of exposure sites to the Queensland Government website. These include contact tracing locations in:

  • Broadbeach
  • Mermaid Beach
  • Miami
  • Tugan
  • Ashmore
  • Elanora
  • Currumbin Waters

Members are requested to please continue to check the website for any further exposure sites.

If you have been to any of the exposure sites, please follow the advice provided on the website and seek a COVID-19 test and isolate if required. Please ensure you know the range of COVID-19 symptoms and if you are unwell, please do not visit the Club. Also please continue to follow physical distancing guidelines and regularly wash and sanitise your hands.

Queensland Health has also strongly recommended that all residents on the Gold Coast wear a mask when indoors and carry a mask with you when outside of your home.

Queensland is set to ease restrictions for entry to Queensland on 17 December 2021. This is when it is expected that at least 80% of Queenslanders, 16 years and older, are double vaccinated.

At this stage, the Queensland Government health guidelines will restrict entry to unvaccinated people from this date into clubs, pubs, restaurants and other various facilities which include Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club (Club).

The Board has therefore been obliged to adopt a Queensland Mandated Vaccination Policy (Policy) which provides Members with their amended right to access the facilities from 17 December 2021. To view the Policy, PLEASE CLICK HERE.

This will also include all staff that work at the Club who will also require to be double vaccinated by 17 December 2021 or before. Unfortunately, with huge demands and shortages of staff for positions in South East Queensland, this may mean some disruptions to services in the coming months.

At this time, the Queensland Government has advised that golf clubs may self-impose rules which does include granting permission to access golf facilities for unvaccinated people. This matter has been addressed in the Policy.

Enforcing new Restrictions at the Club

The Club must take reasonable steps to enforce these restrictions through the following means:

  • Display the vaccination rules in a prominent location at the entry of our business premises
  • Ask for evidence of vaccination from Members and all guests at the time of check-in (this is a legal requirement)
  • If a Member or guest cannot or refuses to provide evidence, the Member or guest will be asked to leave the premises
  • During these restrictions, access to the Golf Club will only be via the golf shop. The main entry to the Club will be open during nominated times.

We appreciate your assistance and patience with this necessary step as we are forced to permanently staff each check-in area to the Club.

Vaccination Certificates

From 19 November 2021, vaccination certificates can be added to the “Check In Qld app” (CIQ app) to make it simple and easy to prove vaccination status.

  • Members will need to ‘link’ their Federal Government COVID-19 Digital Certificate with the CIQ app;
  • In order to do this, Members will need access to their Medicare Online Account (through MyGov), or the Medicare Express Plus App on a mobile device;
  • The ‘linking’ of the Federal Government COVID-19 Digital Certificate with the CIQ app is relatively straight forward, with the process starting either through the CIQ app, the Medicare Online Account (through MyGov), or the Medicare Express Plus app. Without access to the Medicare Online Account (through MyGov), or the Medicare Express Plus app, patrons will not be able to access and link their Federal Government COVID-19 Digital Certificate with the CIQ app.
  • Once an individual ‘links’ their Federal Government COVID-19 Digital Certificate with the CIQ app, they will notice a new green ‘tick’ next to their name on the ‘home screen’ of the CIQ app. When they ‘check in’ to the Club, their name will be highlighted green on the ‘check in screen’;
  • If a Member wants to ‘check in’ other patrons using their app, they may do this and those other patron’s names will also be highlighted green if their vaccination status as been updated on the CIQ app.
  • The Club will host a number of sessions leading up to 17 December 2021 to assist Members in putting their Vaccination Certificates into the “Check In Qld app”. More details will be communicated to Members over the next week.

The Queensland Government has produced a series of videos which show how to add the Federal Government COVID-19 Digital Certificate to the CIQ app. The videos are published under the ‘Resources’ tab of the Queensland Government COVID-19 website which can be accessed by clicking here

Mulpha has advised that Club Members will be able to continue to enjoy the use of the Country Club facilities as normal at this time. The Queensland Government has not placed restrictions on these operations.

The Board appreciates that this Policy may not sit well with some Members. Whilst we have no choice with the Clubhouse restrictions, we have made the rules as outlines in the Policy with respect to golf facility access in the best interest of Members from a health and safety perspective.

We will continue to update the Members should any changes to the Policy be required leading up to 17 December 2021 and appreciate your support with this Policy.

Yesterday, the Queensland Government announced that from 17 December 2021, once Queensland reaches an 80% double vaccination rate, several restrictions will be implemented for unvaccinated people.

The restrictions will apply to unvaccinated Members, contractors, visitors, guests, and employees in relation to non-essential leisure activities and venues. This includes Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club where anyone visiting the Golf Club be required to be double vaccinated.

To access the public health and social measures linked to vaccination status ‘plan’, click here.

At this stage, the Queensland Government has not confirmed if playing golf will be permitted in some capacity for unvaccinated people. This has differed in various states around Australia and to that effect, the Club will wait for further advice from Queensland Health before advising the Members of what will be implemented here from 17 December 2021.

Acceptable evidence of vaccination status will include a vaccination certificate linked to the Queensland Check-In app, the COVID-19 digital certificate or immunisation history statement from the Medicare-linked MyGov account. There will be further correspondence to Members in the coming weeks from the Club to confirm how we will collect this information.

There are likely to be exemptions in place for people who are unable to receive the vaccination due to a medical contraindication. These details have not yet been published by the Queensland Government.

We can also advise that the wearing of masks once Queensland reaches its 80% first dose vaccination target will be relaxed, and our staff will advise when approved by the government.

The Club will communicate information to Members as further health directives are provided by the Queensland Government.

As these government directives will now have to be enforced by the Club, your assistance would be appreciated in meeting these requirements.
