A few months ago, the Board was approached by former Club President Dr. Greg Herring regarding an initiative to start a Club archive. Many golf clubs in Australia and overseas have notable displays, photos and stories capturing the history of their Club and members, which sparked Greg’s interest in this project.

In light of our Club being relatively young, we have a unique opportunity to start collecting, documenting, cataloguing and displaying our own history from the very beginning by gleaning information from those involved from the start.

With the Board’s support, Greg has commenced the Club archive project with the help of Club Members Greg Gilson, Biv Gilson and Suzi Ledger. The group has done the following to date:

  • Reviewed all the memorabilia the Club has in storage and commenced cataloguing
  • Been given a room in the maintenance shed as a workspace and store
  • Greg Gilson has built up a collection of interviews with many involved in the beginning – including those who built The Pines and key golfers who played it
  • Discussed the practicalities of archiving with representatives of several respected golf clubs which have successful projects
  • Been provided with a computer and relevant specialist software (Mosaic) as well as access to a printer, scanner etc.
  • Kept the Board informed of developments

To ensure this project’s success, assistance from our Members will be greatly appreciated. Once the archive group is established in its processes, your help will be sought by way of donations, and/or gifting or lending of memorabilia items relating to the Club.

Until we provide a further update, we invite you to consider how you may be able to contribute to this worthy idea. If you would like to assist personally, please contact Greg Herring by email on archive@scgcc.com.au.
