Ladies’ Invitation Day

On Thursday 16 March, the Club welcomed our Sanctuary Cove ladies and their invited guests to the first Ladies’ Invitation Day for 2023. Guests included members from 20 different golf clubs across Queensland and as far south as Victoria, who experienced The Pines golf course in hot conditions as part of a 128-player field.

Ladies enjoyed Pommery Champagne tastings on course as well as a relaxing neck massage from Jason Stirling of Stirling Sports Massage. In addition, an impressive $3,500 was raised on the day for the Zephyr Foundation through raffles and with the assistance of PGA Associate Jordan Hampson, who hit tee shots on the 9th hole.

Following golf, ladies enjoyed a champagne masterclass presented by Mr Jeff Butler from Vranken-Pommery Australia, along with a delicious buffet. Entertainment was offered by way of a fabulous fashion parade thanks to Aura Lane in Hope Island. A special mention to our stunning models for the day, Chris Lynam, Janice Wright, Fiona Armstrong and Tracey Lowe.

Congratulations to the winners of the 1-2-3 Stableford competition for the day, Audy White, Dwi Devine, Jessica Wang and Endang Solomons with a score of 95 points holding out the runners-up team of Louise Wolbers, Gail Chell, Leanne Esteb and Alison Woodhouse with a score of 90 points. Members are reminded that parking is not permitted under the porte-cochère at the Clubhouse main entrance unless in an allocated parking space.

Golf buggy parking is available in front of the golf shop and in the designated Clubhouse entrance cart park.

Your cooperation and understanding of these guidelines are appreciated, so as to not jeopardise the Club’s ability to accommodate emergencies such as fire and ambulance arrivals.

We thank you for your support on this matter.

Members’ Working Group

The Members’ Working Group is a group of Members who volunteer their time to assist the Golf Course Maintenance team with various tasks on and around the golf courses.

This week, the group helped with the planting of pine trees along both sides of the driving range, which is greatly appreciated.

The Members’ Working Group meets fortnightly on Tuesdays, and we invite any Members interested in helping to contact Gary Simmons.

The Palms Fairway Topdressing

The topdressing of The Palms fairways will be completed on Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29 March 2023. This was unable to be completed during the course renovation period due to supply shortages of sand.

Topdressing is the application of a sand-based topdressing mix to the playing surface, the benefits of which are listed below:

  • The filling of aerification holes with sand keeps these channels open for air, water and amendments, allowing them to penetrate to the root zone
  • The removal of thatch by core aerification, coupled with the topdressing sand application, is a combination that creates a tighter, firmer, and more even playing surface
    • Thatch is the result of applying turf which produces organic matter in the upper rootzone (thatch)
    • This creates a soft, undesirable playing surface
  • Rubbing in of topdressing sand fills in any uneven surfaces and levels out these areas

During the topdressing period, Members and guests will experience minimal impact on the golf course.

MiScore App Update

On Wednesday 8 March 2023, the Club’s MiScore app received a major upgrade. The upgrade was installed automatically on devices with automatic app updates enabled.
