In line with the Club’s Strategic Plan recently shared with Members, the installation of a solar power system on the Clubhouse has been revisited and approved by the Board, with works to commence as early as 19 June 2023.
The system will be a 99kw PV solar system and one of the largest installation options with 248 solar panels. The panels and supporting racking system selected are black, to ensure the system blends in with the Club’s existing roof for superior aesthetics. The SolarEdge inverters selected have historically generally had a good reputation for reliability and efficiency, and the optimiser devices added to the solar panel installation ensure that each solar panel produces their maximum energy output.
By installing the system before 30 June 2023, the Club is able to record the project as an instant asset write off, and therefore reduce taxable income for 2023 (circa $33.5k based on the 25% tax rate in 2022). The total system cost is $134k, with an approximate payback period of 3.5-4 years.
Following a detailed tender process, OTI Power was selected as the preferred installer. In addition to their Installation and Workmanship warranty being valid for double the length of time as the competing supplier’s, OTI Power was able to guarantee installation prior to 30 June 2023 to offer the maximum tax benefit for the Club.
During the installation period, the main Clubhouse entrance will remain open, however the cart parking area and turning circle of the porte cochère will be closed. The installation will naturally entail some temporary noise disturbances, however only minimal. In the long run, the new solar power system will result in a reduction to power bills, while allowing the Club to become an environmental contributor to the use of clean energy; supporting the Strategic Plan’s objective to improve the Club’s sustainability and enhance its green footprint.
