Message from our Golf Course Superintendent

Cameron Smith, Golf Course Superintendent

“This past week, the Golf Course Maintenance team has been focused on maintaining the course surfaces, with mowing being the primary task. However, this has proven to be a challenge due to the recent rainfall, with 104mm falling over the last weekend. Looking ahead, the team’s main priority for the coming weeks will be overseeding the tees on both courses with Poa Trivialis. The first step in this process has involved solid tining the tees with 10mm tines, followed by mowing the tees down to 6mm. Unfortunately, the weather has also delayed recent fertilising and spraying applications, but these will be prioritised as soon as conditions allow.

The team is hopeful for some clear weather in the near future to allow for continued progress.

This week, the team completed the following on The Palms and The Pines golf courses:

  • Scalped The Pines tees down to 6mm for over-seeding preparation

  • Solid tined (10mm) The Palms tees

  • Continued mulching tree debris on The Pines

  • Commenced trimming irrigation valve lids on both courses

  • Began to mow rough on The Palms

  • Trimmed The Palms greenside sprinklers

  • Cleared high water mark debris on fairways

Next week, the team plans to do the following on both golf courses:

  • Over sow The Pines tees.

  • Scalp The Palms tees down to 6mm for over seeding preparation

  • Apply fungicide on both courses

  • Apply foliar fertiliser on The Palms fairways, tees, and aprons

  • Continue trimming irrigation valve lids, sprinklers, and drainage pits on both courses.
