Message from our Golf Course Superintendent

Cameron Smith, Golf Course Superintendent

The weather continues to be uncooperative, offering little reprieve in recent weeks. Despite the challenges, we’ve managed to mow all playing surfaces and complete fairway spraying on The Palms golf course. However, rough mowing has been limited due to the wet conditions. The maintenance team is doing its utmost to maintain course standards while taking care to avoid any damage to the playing surfaces.

Work on hole 3 of The Palms golf course is well underway, with the edge of the new lake now roughed in using heavy machinery. While recent weather has also posed challenges for the civil contractors, a stretch of dry conditions in the coming weeks should allow us to see significant progress.

We thank members for their ongoing patience as we work around the weather to maintain course standards.

This week, the maintenance team completed the following:

  • Applied fungicide to greens on The Pines golf course

  • Sprayed weeds in the Clubhouse gardens

  • Carried out maintenance in the Country Club gardens

  • Applied foliar fertiliser to fairways and green aprons on The Palms golf course

  • Sprayed runners in bunkers on The Palms golf course

  • Oversaw contractor removal of a tree behind the 10th green on The Palms golf course

  • Installed a temporary irrigation mainline and electrical cable overland on the 10th hole of The Palms golf course due to major works

Next week, the maintenance team plans to:

  • Apply granular fertiliser to greens on The Pines golf course

  • Apply fungicide to greens on both The Pines and The Palms golf course

  • Oversee contractor chipping of tree piles on The Pines golf course

  • Mow rough on The Palms golf course

  • Carry out trimming and detailing of bunkers on The Pines golf course
