The 12th Anniversary Sanctuary Cove Ladies’ Golf Classic brought together 132 players representing 39 golf clubs across Australia, joined by one guest who travelled from New Zealand. The three-day tournament unfolded across The Pines and The Palms golf courses, blending competitive play with a well-paced social programme that has become a hallmark of the event.
Play commenced on Sunday with a four-ball Ambrose on The Pines golf course. Players collected welcome bags filled with over $400 worth of sponsored products and enjoyed a casual morning tea before heading out. At the 13th hole, PGA Associate Drew Herbert hit tee shots in exchange for donations, raising $814.60 for Zephyr Education. On course, guests were offered frosé and chocolate-covered strawberries – a small touch that added to the experience despite the early winter skies. The team from Royal Queensland Golf Club – Lindy Armsden, Dwi Devine, Diana Groves, and Ana Liza Hirst – finished the day on top with a nett score of 61.87.
Later that evening, guests gathered for the annual cocktail event, featuring live music by Michael Hickey and a relaxed menu delivered with precision and care by the Club’s kitchen team. A glass of Château La Gordonne Rosé served as the first of many toasts throughout the week.
On Monday 23 June, singles play commenced on The Palms golf course. Sanctuary Cove member Amanda Cummings posted a standout score of 44 points, placing her eight shots clear of the field. Division leaders included Margie Hay (36 points), Judy Morgan (35 points), and Amanda herself in Division 3. Players paused at the 16th hole for ‘Margarita Monday’ and a chance to win a $15,000 travel prize, thanks to support from Ria Livanas and On The Tee Travel.
After golf, players took the afternoon at their own pace before returning to the Clubhouse, where the ‘Margarita Monday’ theme continued. A family-style dinner, accompanied by music from the Sex and Chocolate trio, brought great energy to the midpoint of the tournament.
Tuesday’s final round returned to The Pines golf course for a shotgun start. Before stepping onto the tee, players gathered for a group photo wearing their 2025 Ladies’ Golf Classic shirts. Amanda Cummings took an early lead, closely pursued by reigning champion Margie Hay. With live scoring paused after the 15th hole, the leaderboard remained a mystery until the final card was signed. At the 1st tee, players were greeted by Jeff Butler, who poured glasses of Pommery Champagne and offered a small treat to carry them through the round.
Following play, guests returned to the Clubhouse for a final toast and buffet-style lunch prepared by the Club’s Chef and his team.
