Message from our Golf Course Superintendent

Cameron Smith, Golf Course Superintendent

With 67mm of rain falling over the first two days of the week, planned debris removal and rock wall maintenance on The Pines golf course had to be cancelled. These works will be rescheduled, and members will be notified once new dates are confirmed.

While the golf courses were closed, we took the opportunity to needle-tine the greens on The Pines golf course to assist with drying following the recent wet weather. The same process will be carried out on The Palms golf course greens next week.

Also next week, vegetation removal will begin on holes 14 and 15 of The Palms golf course, in line with the Course Enhancement Plan, along with mulching of debris temporarily stockpiled behind the 12th green. This site is being used solely as a short-term holding area while we manage green waste removal across both golf courses, following the recent loss of our designated dumping site.

Additionally, we have commenced work on The Pines golf course bunkers by redistributing sand and auditing those that require top-ups. This bunker improvement program will continue over the coming months.

This week, the maintenance team completed the following:

  • Needle tined The Pines golf course greens
  • Checked and detailed bunker sand depth on The Pines golf course front nine
  • Trimmed drain pits on The Palms golf course
  • Detailed the low bunker edges on The Palms golf course
  • Trimmed fairway distance markers on The Palms golf course
  • Detailed the small putter garden on The Pines golf course
  • Repaired fencing on the 8th and 10th holes of The Palms golf course
  • Graded and levelled the temporary path on the 10th hole of The Palms golf course
  • Continued garden detailing and trimming on The Palms golf course

Next week, the following will be addressed:

  • Complete bunker sand depth check and detail on The Pines golf course back nine
  • Needle tine The Palms golf course greens
  • Edge and detail path edges on The Palms golf course
  • Continue Ventrac mulching of forest floors on The Pines golf course
  • Apply foliar fertiliser to the driving range fairway on The Pines golf course
  • Continue irrigation trimming on The Palms golf course
  • Chip and mulch tree waste piles on The Palms golf course by contractors
