Message from our Golf Course Superintendent

Cameron Smith, Golf Course Superintendent

Unfortunately, 35.5mm of rain was recorded over the weekend, requiring carts to return to paths. The Club thanks members and guests for their understanding in helping to protect the golf courses during these damp conditions. Despite the weather, foliar fertiliser and insecticide were applied to tees, green aprons, and fairways on both courses with adjusted timing. Washouts along the lake rock wall on the 3rd hole of The Palms golf course were repaired. Mowing of the new turf on the same hole continued with the final cut lowered to 18mm, and work around the transplanted palm trees on the 10th hole was completed.

On The Pines golf course, runners and weeds in bunkers were sprayed with herbicide. Mulching continued under the tree line with the Ventrac machine, and tree debris from the 14th hole was relocated for easier contractor access.

Next week, the team will apply fungicide to greens on both courses, continue verti-cutting the practice putting greens and practice hole greens on The Pines golf course, perform solid tine aeration on tees on The Palms golf course and weak areas on fairways on The Pines golf course, and apply selective herbicide to control flatweeds in the outer rough on The Pines golf course.

This week, the maintenance team completed the following:

  • Applied foliar fertilisers and insecticide to tees, green aprons, and fairways on both courses
  • Verti-cut the practice putting greens and the practice hole greens on The Pines golf course
  • Applied herbicide to grass runners in bunkers on The Pines golf course
  • Completed work around palm trees transplanted last week on the 10th hole of The Palms golf course
  • Repaired washouts along the stone wall on the 3rd hole of The Palms golf course caused by last weekend’s rainfall

  • Relocated tree debris from the right side of the 14th hole on The Pines golf course to an area near the tee for easier contractor access
  • Continued mulching tree areas on The Pines golf course using the Ventrac mulcher
  • Performed solid tine aeration on tees on The Pines golf course
  • Member volunteers sand filled divots on the back nine fairways of The Pines golf course
  • Replaced dead pine trees on the right side of the practice range
