Golf Course Renovations – The Palms golf course
The Palms golf course is currently closed for annual renovations and is scheduled to reopen on Monday 17 November 2025. The renovation program follows a similar process to the previous year, with several refinements designed to achieve a quicker recovery and stronger long-term results. This renovation period also includes enhancement works on hole 17, as part of the Club’s broader plan to improve playability and strategic design across The Palms golf course.
During this period, the following works are being undertaken:
Greens
- The greens will be double scarified to a depth of -18mm.
- They will then be shaved down to 2mm with the mowers.
- The greens will be cored with slightly smaller tines than last year to support quicker recovery.
- All material will be removed with the core sweeper, followed by the first of two topdressing applications.
- New small tool attachments will be used to work sand into the holes, replacing the labour-intensive hand brooming process used last year.
- Once the sand is in place, amendments will be incorporated into the profile to strengthen nutrient storage.
Tees and Fairways
- The tees and fairways will be double scarified to -18mm, then cleaned and shaved down to 8mm before being topdressed.
- A significant application of calcium will be applied to improve salt movement and soil aeration.
- The tees will be deep tined.
- The fairways will again be treated with the shockwave linear aerator, which last year delivered healthier turf and significantly improved drainage.
Approaches
- The approaches will undergo the same process as the tees and fairways.
- Two additional brooming applications will be carried out using the Ventrac machine.
- The Ventrac brush has already proven effective in reducing grain on surrounds, and its use will help fast-track playability levels following renovation.
As always, we thank members for their patience during this period of essential works. These practices are a vital part of maintaining healthy surfaces and will ensure improved playing conditions as we move into the warmer months.
