Message from our Golf Course Superintendent

Cameron Smith, Golf Course Superintendent

We have enjoyed another week of fine weather, which has allowed the team to make excellent progress across the courses. Around the Clubhouse, spring landscape trimming is well underway, while The Pines golf course has seen the finishing touches completed in several areas. On The Palms golf course, the native floral displays are currently at their peak, further enhanced by recent applications of organic fertiliser.

Taking advantage of this week’s course closure on The Palms golf course, we needle-tined the greens to ease winter compaction and stimulate new root growth as soil temperatures rise. This was followed by a calcium fertiliser treatment to help flush salts from the root zone and strengthen the turf as we head into summer.

Next week, our attention will shift to the bunkers on The Pines golf course. Sand depths have not been to the standard we expect, so corrective work has already commenced, with fresh sand added to the greenside bunkers on holes 3 and 5. This process will continue across the course to ensure every bunker is restored to top condition.

As always, we ask members and their guests to take extra care on the course while our team is at work in these areas. Your patience is greatly appreciated as we continue to deliver the best possible playing surfaces for all.

This week, the maintenance team completed the following:

  • A foliar fertiliser and miticide were applied to The Pines golf course tees, green aprons, and fairways
  • Needle tine aeration was carried out on The Palms golf course greens

  • An amendment application with micro gypsum was applied to The Palms golf course greens

  • Fungicide was applied to the greens on both courses to control fairy ring

  • The garden trim was completed on The Pines golf course 1st tee, and garden trim and detail work commenced around the Clubhouse

  • Detail work was undertaken edging the artificial bunkers on the practice range

  • The path edges were trimmed and detailed on The Palms golf course

  • Spot spraying with a selective herbicide was carried out to control Queensland blue couch in The Palms golf course greens

  • Trimming of irrigation valve lids commenced on The Pines golf course

  • The fallen pine tree on the left side of The Pines golf course ladies’ 15th tee was removed

  • Works continued on The Palms golf course 10th hole, with irrigation installed during the week by contractors

Next week, the following will be addressed:

  • Foliar fertiliser will be applied to The Palms golf course tees, green aprons, and fairways

  • Irrigation valve lids will continue to be trimmed on The Pines golf course

  • Spot spraying of Queensland blue couch will be followed up on The Pines golf course greens and Zoysia collars
