The recent Member Tour to Queenstown, New Zealand was an outstanding success. Thermals and jackets were packed in anticipation of freezing conditions following recent snowfall; however, members were pleasantly surprised to experience mild weather, with temperatures reaching the high teens.
Round 1 at Jack’s Point Golf Club was, as expected, very windy, yet the scenery was simply spectacular. Mario Cutts won the day with 34 Stableford points on a countback from Peter Spencer – an exceptional result given the testing conditions.
Round 2 at The Remarkables Course at Millbrook Resort was played in perfect weather, which was reflected in the impressive scoring, with seven members breaking 40 points. Brian Armstrong claimed victory with 45 points, closely followed by Jenene Spencer on 44 points. The Remarkables Course was in outstanding condition and visually breathtaking.
Round 3 proved to be the most challenging day of the tour, with icy winds consistently exceeding 30 km/h at The Coronet Course at Millbrook Resort. This championship layout, a regular host of the New Zealand Open, showed its true character, demanding precision and patience as players faced two- and three-club winds throughout the day. Peter Spencer emerged victorious with 35 points, followed closely by Melissa Atkins. In contrast to Round 2, only five members broke 30 points, reflecting both the difficulty of the golf course and the extreme conditions.
The Club extends its thanks to all members who participated in the tour, and a special thank you to Millbrook Resort for their exceptional hospitality.
