Message from our Golf Course Superintendent

Cameron Smith, Golf Course Superintendent

With only 19mm of rain falling from the weekend into Monday, the weather has generally held off, allowing normal maintenance practices to continue across the courses. All playing surfaces are in excellent condition following the first month of winter. Ongoing fertility applications to the tee tops and driving range tees are supporting recovery through the cooler months.

Next week, with The Pines golf course closed on Monday and Tuesday, the team will focus on storm damage clean-up and the installation of additional rocks in front of the 13th green. However, the forecast is not favourable, with 10–20mm of rain expected on Sunday, and another 10mm on Monday. The maintenance team will aim to make as much progress as possible, weather permitting.

This week, the maintenance team completed the following:

  • Selective herbicide was applied to both The Pines golf course and The Palms golf course greens
  • Ventrac mulched The Pines golf course forest floors
  • Trimmed The Pines golf course irrigation valve lids
  • Solid tine aeration was performed on The Pines golf course nursery green
  • Completed The Pines golf course 12th hole access path and continued work on the 8th hole access path
  • Fungicide was applied to both The Pines golf course and The Palms golf course greens
  • Continued trimming The Palms golf course drain pits
  • Granular fertiliser was applied to The Palms golf course tees
  • Removed a downed tree behind The Palms golf course 1st green on Banksia Lakes Drive
  • Finished levelling out the mulch on The Palms golf course 1st hole
  • Repaired irrigation breaks and leaks on The Palms golf course
  • Solid tine aeration was carried out through weak areas on The Palms golf course fairways on holes 6 to 18, and on The Pines golf course 5th and 13th holes

Next week, the following will be addressed:

  • Needle tine the greens on The Pines golf course
  • Apply gypsum to the greens on The Pines golf course
  • Carry out rock wall repair work in front of the 13th green on The Pines golf course at the dam edge
  • Complete storm damage tree pile clean-up on The Pines golf course with contractors
