Acknowledging the collective effort behind the 2026 Australian WPGA Championship at the Club
We would like to sincerely thank all members who contributed to the success of the 2026 Australian WPGA Championship.
Events of this scale don’t happen without the support of the Club, and once again our members stepped up in a big way. Whether it was billeting, caddying, scoring, drink carrying or ball spotting, your contribution played a critical role in delivering a first-class tournament on The Palms golf course.
In the months leading into the event, our member working bee groups also provided great support to the Golf Course Maintenance team. That effort showed as the course presentation throughout the week was something we should all be incredibly proud of.
A special thank you to Nick Mullings and our Volunteer Managers Indren Naidoo, Justine Brackenrig, Peter Bubeck, Kate Morrisby, Tracy Hodson, and Ross Lightfoot. Coordinating a volunteer program of this scale is no small task, and their leadership ensured everything ran smoothly from start to finish.
Behind the scenes, this was a whole-of-Club effort. Our teams worked closely with the WPGA of Australia, Mulpha, Tourism and Events QLD, and Destination Gold Coast over many months to prepare for the event, and it showed in the way the week came together.
The Club would particularly like to personally acknowledge Tim Bray for his leadership throughout both the planning and delivery phases. It was a complex operation, and his calm and considered approach was instrumental in achieving such a great outcome.
A special mention must go to Cameron Smith and the Golf Course Maintenance team. The Palms golf course looked exceptional both in person and on television, which is a credit to the planning and preparation that went into it. Early starts from 3am accompanied with late evening finishes across tournament week are not easy, and their commitment and attention to detail did not go unnoticed.
We also saw strong support for the Festival of Golf, including the sold-out An Evening of Champions dinner. It was a fantastic night and a great addition to the week, with Hannah Green, Steph Kyriacou and Karen Lunn providing some excellent insight into the women’s game.
Overall, it was a week the Club can be very proud of.
We look forward to building on this success in 2027, and once again, thank you to the members for your support of this wonderful event.
