2023 Ladies’ Christmas in July

The Club’s 2023 Christmas in July festivities began with our ladies taking to The Pines golf course on Thursday 27 July for the annual Ladies’ Christmas in July golf day. Playing a Florida Ambrose event, it was great to see our ladies get into the spirit by dressing up in Christmas-themed outfits. Congratulations to all the winners on the day with Jan Venn, Kerry Milliner, Judy McDonald and Laura Liebenau taking third place. Second place was awarded to Libby Shakespeare, Anne Cheung, Silvana Phillips and Frances Ning with Airlie Hawley, Judy Morgan, Airlie Phillis and Susan Bowman claiming victory for the day with a great score of 58.625 nett. In addition to a beautiful day of golf and festivities, the ladies once again showed their extraordinary generosity in supporting OrangeSky Australia. OrangeSky offers regular laundry and shower services for people who are too often ignored or who feel disconnected from the community and who are homeless. The Club sourced a number of fabulous raffle prizes for the ladies to select, assisting in raising over $1,800 for OrangeSky. To increase the day’s final tally, the Captain and Vice-Captain of Ladies’ Golf, Libby Shakespeare and Jane Mullings, respectively, pledged to raise the amount to $2,000, followed by the Club contributing a further $500 for a total donation of $2,500. Thank you once again to all ladies for your overwhelming generosity.

Christmas in July Dinner 

Continuing the festivities enjoyed by the ladies on Thursday 27 July, the Club hosted our annual Christmas in July event at the Club on Saturday 29 July. With a record number of over 150 Members and their guests attending the evening, it was a wonderful night. Attendees enjoyed a “Yulefest” European winter and Christmas-style buffet dinner and drinks, including traditional mulled wine. Guests were up dancing all night to Club-favourite entertainers, the Captain Wow band. Congratulations to the best-dressed winners on the evening Judy Coote and Ged Cummings, and to our best-dressed couple Julie Anderson and Paul Drinan. It is wonderful to see the continued support this traditional event receives every year, and we encourage Members to save the date for next year’s Christmas in July dinner on Saturday 27 July 2024. Sanctuary Cove Trivia Night – Wednesday 30 August 2023

Members and their guests are invited to join us on Wednesday 30 August 2023 for an interactive, fun and family friendly evening of trivia. Entries are available in teams of 2 to 10 people, so gather your friends and family and register today. Tickets are just $30 for Members and $35 for non-members and include an Asian-style buffet dinner. To view the menu, click here.

Dining Reservations via the SCGCC App

The Club is pleased to advise that Members can now book dining reservations at the Club via the new SCGCC app for Friday Night Dining in The Jabiru Restaurant, and for Sunday breakfast and Sunday Night Roast in Lakeview Bar. When on the dining tab of the app, simply select your preferred date, enter your party (group) size and time. When prompted to select your location for your booking, please select one of the following: 

• Friday Night Dining – The Jabiru Restaurant 
• Sunday Breakfast – Lakeview Bar 
• Sunday Night Roast – Lakeview Bar 

After entering the above details, please select the search button and the available bookings will display. Select your preferred reservation time and press confirm to finalise your booking. A confirmation will display, and a confirmation email will be sent to your nominated email linked to your Member account.

Change to the Club By-Laws

The By-Laws have been amended, specifically By-Law ‘4.1 Rights of Equity Members (including Life Members)’. In summary, Equity Members with Alternates on their shares who wish to access the Golf Clubhouse may do so by paying the Social Membership fee for the period their Alternate is in place. Welcome Kelara Pepper and Deedee Russell

The Club would like to welcome two new staff members to the front of house food and beverage team who commenced employment last week. Kelara Pepper joins us from The Star Casino where she has spent time working in the events team. Kelara has a passion for the beauty and makeup industry in her spare time and her warm and friendly personality is a welcome addition to the team. DeeDee Russell joins us with over 4 years’ experience in food and beverage at Lakelands Golf Club. DeeDee is an ex-golf professional who reluctantly gave up her career in golf due to injury, however still has a great passion and love for golf. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Engineering (honours) in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor of Industrial Design. Please welcome both Kelara and DeeDee to the Club.

Pace of Play and Registration for Play

A reminder to Members to please observe the Rules Relating to Golf as well as the Rules of Golf in relation to the following:

• Slow play – Please remain observant of your pace of play during your round and keep up with the group in front. As outlined in the Rules Relating to Golf, slow play is not tolerated, and the Club has a slow play policy in place.
• Registration – Players must register with the golf shop at least 15 minutes prior to their assigned starting time and must be within the vicinity of their starting hole or on the practice putting green 10 minutes prior to their tee time. In line with the Rules Relating to Golf, not reporting to the golf shop on time may lead to disciplinary action, and the Rules of Golf state the following:
  • If the player is late, and starts no later than 5 minutes after scheduled starting time, a 2-shot penalty is issued (loss of hole in match play)
  • If the player is later than 5 minutes from scheduled starting time, they are disqualified.

Golf Bookings

A reminder to all Members to cancel tee times if you are not intending to play. In recent times, Members have been delaying cancellations of unwanted tee times, only doing so one day prior to play upon receipt of the booking reminder email.

We appreciate your assistance on this matter.

Competition Times – Members’ Guest Policy

Due to the increased number of new Members and resultant additional Member rounds, there has been a change to the Club’s Members’ guest policy during competition times commencing 1 August 2023 for bookings from 15 August 2023.

• Ladies’ Monday competition – maximum of one guest per Member, bookings can only be made within seven days of the tee time*
• Men’s Wednesday competition – maximum of one guest per Member, bookings can only be made within seven days of the tee time*
• Ladies’ Thursday competition – maximum of one guest per Member, bookings can only be made within seven days of the tee time*
• Men’s Friday competition – maximum of one guest per Member, bookings can only be made within seven days of the tee time*
• Saturday Men’s and Ladies’ Saturday competition – no guests are permitted in competition times

*additional guests (two more per Member – three in total) may be booked within 48 hours of the tee time if availability permits

Social Sunday – 2-3-4 Stableford   

The next Social Sunday event will be held on The Pines golf course on Sunday 13 August 2023. This event will be a 4BBB Stableford and the final of the Mixed Winter Challenge.

Members’ Working Group

The Members’ Working Group is a group of Members who volunteer their time to assist the Golf Course Maintenance team with various tasks on and around the golf courses. 

The group meets fortnightly on Tuesdays, and we invite any Members interested in helping to contact Gary Simmons.

Sunday Night Roast and Members’ Draw

The weekly Members’ Sunday Night Roast is held on Sunday evenings from 5:30pm.

The roast is $40 per person and includes a soup, a selection of traditional roast meats and vegetables and dessert.

Places are strictly limited, to avoid disappointment please book by phoning 07 5699 9000.

The Weekly Members’ Draw will be drawn at 6:30pm. The Member drawn in the last Members’ Draw was Sharon Houghton. Mrs Houghton was not present, therefore the amount has jackpotted to $1,100 Club Credit with one chance to win.
